Kingfishers of SA Tea Towel

A celebration of one of South Africa’s most striking bird families, this piece brings together all eleven kingfisher species found in the region — from the jewel-like Malachite Kingfisher to the bold and unmistakable Giant Kingfisher.

Each bird has been carefully illustrated and thoughtfully arranged to highlight its unique colouration, form, and character. The collection is presented with its Afrikaans, English, and scientific name, offering both aesthetic pleasure and gentle educational value.

Printed on a rich cotton A2-sized tea towel with a distinctive dark chocolate edging, this piece is designed to live beautifully in both the kitchen, nursery, study or patio. Use it functionally as a tea towel, or display it as a textile artwork — a tactile alternative to a traditional print.

Created for The Coocoo Club, this design reflects a contemporary approach to natural history: where art, storytelling, and observation come together in objects made to be both used and kept.

Every bird is carefully researched, illustrated and created by artist Jeanne Hugo in various media before it is compiled and presented as these Vintage Style Naturalist collections.
